Marathon Park
Originally built as a park in 1970s, Marathon Park is a 2-acre waterfront park on the west side of Capitol Lake in the city of Wausau. It is located at 1011 Deschutes Pkwy SW, Olympia, WA 98501. The park’s name is derived from the 1984 US Olympic Marathon Trials, which were held in the city. This event drew thousands of spectators to the park. The park is popular for running, walking, birdwatching, and other outdoor activities. It also features two large Multi-Purpose Buildings.
The park’s main attraction is its Amphitheater, which is one of central Wisconsin’s largest permanent outdoor venues. The facility seats almost 10,000 spectators and offers a variety of events. Its scenic setting is surrounded by hundreds of stately white pines. The stage and permanent seating are arranged on a gently sloping earthen berm. Approximately 3,000 spectators can sit between the stage and the permanent seating, providing a breathtaking open-air show experience.
The park also offers a variety of other facilities. There are baseball diamonds and tennis courts, as well as a playground and dock for fishing. There is also an outdoor dog exercise area. There is also a pavilion with an open-air rotunda, 11-foot by 12-foot booths, and public restrooms.
The park also features a campground with a heated shower building. There are 35 campsites in the park. During the winter, the buildings are converted to indoor ice for hockey games. During the summer months, the facility is open to the public and includes a splash pad and picnic areas.
The park is also home to several historic structures. One of these structures, the Exhibition Building, was built in 1924 and is now used as a vendor center for the Wisconsin Valley Fair. The Pavilion features a hexagonal rotunda, six wings, and 11-foot by 12-foot booths. The building is also equipped with concrete ramps and public restrooms.
The park is also home to the Marathon Park Amphitheater, which has a capacity of nearly 10,000 spectators. This facility was designed to provide the best possible open-air show experience.
